“A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” Dr. Jing Fan was trained to be a TCM practitioner by family from a young age. He is the 3rd generation Chinese Medicine practitioner of his family in China. His passion in scientific research of TCM revolves around the following fundamental questions: What is health? What are the characteristics of a healthy biological system? How do we recognize these characteristics and treat diseases by using TCM techniques? After completing clinical and basic training of integrating Chinese medicine with western medicine at top TCM and western medicine institutions, he gradually found the beauty of traditional Chinese medicine: dynamic, systematic and complex. Following his supervisors, Prof. Aktas and Prof. Peng at Harvard Medical School for more than two years, he realized that the complexity of a biological system reflects its ability to adapt and function in an ever-changing environment. Thus, a healthy system that can adapt easily when faced with external stresses, is located at the high complexity state. A wide class of disease states, as well as aging, appear to degrade this biological complexity and reduce the adaptive capacity of the system. Thus, loss of complexity may be a generic, defining feature of pathologic dynamics, and the basis of new diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic approaches. TCM looks human and nature as a whole, and always treats diseases with the idea of dynamics and systems to restore the complexity of human’s body.

Dr. Jing Fan’s clinical specialty is in the area of pain management from a systematic-complexity point of view in TCM. He also has abundant experience in treating patients with Neuro-musculoskeletal, digestive, respiratory, endocrine and gynecological diseases. The diseases he has treated include, but are not limited to headache, insomnia, poor memory, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, facial pain, limb pain and numbness, muscle weakness & atrophy, COPD, stress, PTSD,  GERD, IBS, PID, irregular menstruation and urinary problems.
