We also have a start-up supply of needles & herbs available, if needed. Full disclosure is that we are only a little over 1 year old, so we are still in a "ramp-up" period...although clientele is steadily increasing & why we need help.

We do have a healthy amount of advertising / marketing in various avenues. However, it would be great if you could bring-in your existing clientele &/or have an entrepreneurial spirit (getting out in the community so others can connect / bond directly with you - it's a powerful thing in folks knowing the practitioner directly & helps with "word of mouth"). This position is located within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Uses various acupuncture therapies, techniques, and equipment to evaluate, assess, and treat patients in a direct-care setting.
  • Uses diagnostic techniques such as observation, listening, palpation, and physiognomy to implement treatment plan.
  • Employs manual and electrical nerve stimulation and related equipment to manage pain and discomfort.
  • Uses standard precautions and properly utilizes personal protective equipment.
  • Adheres to various consent/time-out procedures in accordance with agency policies ad Joint Commission Standards.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Qualifying specialized experience includes: Experience with the insertion of thin metal needles at precise depths into specific areas of the body, which requires thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology; Performs auricular, hand, nose, face, foot, and/or scalp therapy; Performs moxibustion, cupping, thermal methods, and scraping techniques in acupuncture therapy. Utilizes herbal poultices, magnets, acupatches, and ion cord linking acupuncture devices with wiring; Employs both manual and electrical stimulation to manage pain and discomfort; Uses hot and cold packs, TDP (electronic wave therapy), and lasers when performing acupuncture; Performs all procedures following standard infection control guidelines and documents all aspects of procedures in patient's electronic medical record, including documentation of encounters for coding and billing purposes. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

SCCA is seeking an Acupuncturist to serve within its new Integrative Oncology clinical program. As a licensed Acupuncturist, you will provide intensive symptom and side effect management as a member of a multidisciplinary care team in SCCA’s outpatient clinic. This role will collaborate closely with a core team that includes the Integrative Oncology Medical Director, nurse practitioners, massage therapists, yoga therapists, nutritionists, social workers, physical therapists, psychiatry, pain management and palliative care clinics, oncologists, nurses, and clinical researchers. This position will report to clinical operations within SCCA, and work in partnership with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Public Health Sciences and Clinical Research Divisions.

This role requires both highly-developed clinical skills and program development ingenuity as SCCA launches acupuncture services across a diverse oncology population. The Acupuncturist will also serve the Integrative Oncology program in developing and implementing research protocols in order to inform the growing evidence-base for the use of integrative therapies in oncology care. SCCA is ranked by US News & World Report as the #5 Cancer Hospital in the nation. By joining SCCA's Integrative Medicine program, the Acupunturist will help us establish new clinical models for cancer patients in a dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide clinical leadership in implementing delivery of outpatient acupuncture services to SCCA’s oncology patient population.
Use evidence-based acupuncture techniques to treat cancer patient symptoms and treatment side effects using acupuncture needles and other tools.
Work with Medical Director to develop and implement acupuncture research protocols, serve on research committees, and participate with educational programming for colleagues.
Evaluate and document patient progress related to symptom management and services rendered, interfacing across multi-modality clinical care and electronic medical record.
Serve on multi-disciplinary Integrative Oncology clinical care team; develop and implement workflows which provide appropriate and timely access to acupuncture services based on cancer diagnosis, patient need, and symptomatology.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years acupuncture experience, including demonstrated clinical experience with cancer and/or other critically ill populations and appropriate acupuncture techniques utilized for management of symptoms and treatment side effects.
