Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) program

PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM: 

The purpose of the advanced practice doctor of acupuncture and Oriental medicine at AOMA is to prepare qualified practitioners, leaders, educators, and researchers in Integrative patient care focused on pain and its associated psychosocial phenomena.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This program prepares you to expand your practice and advance the field of Chinese and integrative medicines. By furthering your education, you will gain effective skills.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

The goals of the DAOM program are to:

  • Produce advanced clinic practitioners in the clinical specialty of care and management of pain and associated psychosocial phenomena.
  • Develop Chinese medical scholarship in the USA by creating advanced clinical specialists who are also researchers, educators, collaborators, and leaders.
  • Advance the profession into the health care community by creating collaborative relationships.
  • Add to the evidence-based of medicine through scholarly work.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of the DAOM program, graduates will be prepared to:

  • Integrate Chinese and biomedical concepts in the provision of evidence-based care. (PLO1)
  • Employ systems-based practice. (PLO2)
  • Conduct research that contributes to the evidence base of the discipline. (PLO3)
  • Demonstrate behaviors to fulfill professional, leadership, and teaching roles. (PLO4)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning. (PLO5)

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The DAOM program is a three-year program* on full-time basis with the capstone defense in the final term of the third year. Students 

on the fast-track to complete in two years will defend in their final term. The following requirements must be met in order to graduate from the program:

  1. Satisfactory conduct and professional clinical performance. 
  1. Successful completion, presentation, and acceptance of the capstone. 
  1. Successful fulfillment of portfolio requirement. 
  1. Fulfillment of all financial obligations, including return of all library materials. 

 

* Students are expected to graduate within 3 years, with a six-year  maximum limit. 

NOTE: An accelerated plan is structured to make it possible for students to complete their educational program in a fewer number of years.

SCHOLARSHIP

Admissions Scholarships

Limited scholarships are available to newly accepted students. All applicants will be considered for scholarships based on their admissions file AND scholarship application materials. Scholarships are awarded to one more applicant of AOMA’s MAcOM and Doctoral programs.

Scholarships Available:

  • Academic Merit Scholarship     $1,000
  • General Scholarship                   $1,000
  • Relocation Scholarship              $1,000

*International Scholarship is designed to cover English-language training costs that might be required to meet TOEFL & IELTS scores for admission

For Merit and General Scholarships, the $1,000 is distributed in $250 increments per term over 4 successive terms.

For the Relocation Scholarship, a $1,000 check is awarded to the recipients during the first week of class.

In addition to our stewardship of AOMA as one of the leading schools of Chinese medicine, we are committed to providing the best possible educational experience at the most reasonable cost. AOMA reserves the right to make tuition adjustments of 4 - 8% per year that reflect changes in the cost of living and cost of education, subject to governing board approval.
