This class is first in a series of classes that encourages a deeper understanding of the endocrine system. Dysfunction in hormones can wreck havoc in the body and make people feel horrible. Up to 10 percent of the U.S. population may have undiagnosed thyroid dysfunction. We will cover how the thyroid becomes dysfunctional, why it affects females more commonly, how it affects can alter other endocrine functions, and considerations for treatments. We will also discuss the pros and cons of typical treatment options, and alternative treatment options. This course will include numerous case studies and the interventions used to correct the hormonal imbalances. The student should have the tools to understand thyroid function and treatment options by the end of this class.
