Shengyan ‘Grace’ Tan, PhD, OMD, MD (China), LAc

Dr. Shengyan ‘Grace’ Tan was born in Chengdu, China into a traditional Chinese medicine family. In their family lineage of Tan’s, her father and grandfather are both Chinese medical doctors. Her father, a well-known university professor, one of China’s primary experts in the field of medicinal food therapy and herbal preparation. After completed her 11 years PhD in traditional Chinese medicine at Chengdu University of TCM( one of the top 4 TCM universities’ in China), Dr. Tan taught TCM in Chengdu University of TCM and also worked as a TCM doctor at the teaching hospital of Chengdu University of TCM. In 2011, following several visiting professors invites at institutions abroad, Dr. Tan made Austin, Texas her home and became a full-time faculty member and professor at AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine. While the focus of her expertise has been on classical acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, ENT (ear-nose-throat), and ophthalmology (eye disease), Dr. Tan always comes back to the root of classic TCM. “Returning to the root of Chinese medicine reminds me that everything is connected”. In addition, she sought out the classical roots of Chinese medicine outside the institutionalized TCM setting: Daoist medicine and Yijing-I Ching with Zhou Xuexi; Wenbing tongue and pulse diagnosis with Zhang Ziwen; Sichuan Daosim and Shanghan lun pulse diagnosis with Chen Chaozu. Since 2005, she has published widely on both the theoretical and clinical aspects of Chinese medicine. Dr. Tan has more than 12 years of clinical experience of treating endocrine, auto-immune, neurological, sensory organs disorders and gynecological disorders.
